Cumulative GPA

• Minimum of 2.75 required, including all courses taken at other colleges besides GCC.

Acceptance Status

•  AS (Associate of Arts), AS (Associate of Science), AAS (Associate of Applied Science), or AA&S (Associate of Arts & Sciences) – including General Studies degrees.
• Completion of the associate degree program will satisfy all general education requirements at UMW. Students must complete the writing-intensive and speaking-
• intensive courses unless transferable courses were taken as part of the program.
• Guaranteed acceptance of up to 63 credits.
• BLS degree is designed for adults who want to major in a traditional arts and science discipline and who have at least one of the following characteristics:
  • Graduated from high school at least 6 years ago
  • Is a veteran or an active-duty member of the U.S. Armed Services
  • Is married
  • Has legal dependents other than a spouse
  • Is financially self-supporting

•     Course transferability requires a C or better.

Letter of Intent

•     Students must complete the BLS-DTAA Letter of Intent, available from the UMW Office of Admissions.

•     UMW waives the application fee.
•     Acceptance in some major programs at UMW is competitive.

• AA&S (Associate of Arts & Sciences) in Business Administration, General Studies, or Liberal Arts.
• Completion of the transfer degree will satisfy all general education requirements at UMW with the exception of the foreign language requirement.
• Guaranteed acceptance of up to 63 credits.
• These business prerequisite courses must be completed before applying to the university:
  • ACC 211-212
  • ECO 201-202
  • MTH 157, 240, 155, or 245
• Courses will be accepted regardless of delivery method (in person, online, etc.).

Scholarships

Students are eligible for a $1000 scholarship per year ($500 in fall and $500 in spring) in addition to other financial aid for which they might be eligible.  

Awards are for up to six semesters.  

Students must remain in a Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting or the International Business major.  

Students must remain in good academic standing, with a cumulative gpa of 2.0 or greater while at UMW.

• Minimum of 2.5 required, including all courses taken at other colleges besides GCC.

Acceptance Status

• AAS (Associate of Applied Science) in Nursing.
• Students may transfer up to 90 credits to UMW including nursing courses, prerequisites, and general education courses.
• Statistics is required.
• 30 credits must be taken at UMW.
• Provide current, unencumbered RN license prior to taking any courses at UMW with NURS prefix.

• Students must complete the BSN Concurrent Enrollment Agreement Letter of Intent.

Cumulative GPA Required

• Minimum 3.00 GPA

Acceptance Status

• Associates of Arts and Science Degrees (AA&S)
• Completion of the transfer degree will satisfy all general education requirements at UMW with the exception of the second language requirement.
• Although not required for transfer admission, UMW requires a foreign language through the 201 level for their students to graduate. UMW accepts ASL coursework through the 201 level but does not offer these courses. This can also be satisfied if the student has taken through level IV in High School.
• GAA students will receive a waiver for all other lower level general education courses, with the exception of: 1 Digital Intensive requirement, 1 Diverse and Global Perspectives course, 1 After Mary Washington requirement, and 1 Beyond the Classroom
• UMW guarantees the acceptance of the transfer associate degree credits. Courses for transfer must be earned with a C or higher.
• Articulated Program Maps will be added through the GTPA requirement.
