The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) is authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Public Law 117-2, signed into law on March 11, 2021, providing $39.6 billion in support to institutions of higher education to serve students and ensure learning continues during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ARP funds are in addition to funds authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), Public Law 116-260 and the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Public Law 116-136. Emergency funds available to institutions and their students under all emergency funds total $76.2 billion.

  1. An acknowledgement that the institution signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used the applicable amount of funds designated under the ARP (a)(4) program to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

    Germanna Community College signed and returned to the Department of Education the CARES Funding Certification and Agreement on May 4, 2020.  Per the regulations, we did not have to submit a separate agreement for the ARP funds.

  2. The total amount of funds that the institution will receive or has received from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the ARP (a)(4) program.
    Germanna Community College received an allocation from the ARP under Section 2003 (a)(1) programs ALN 84.425E and 84.425F in the amount of $11,150,169. Of this funding, Germanna intends to use no less than $5,679,146 from the U.S. Department of Education as emergency grants for students.
     
  3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under the ARP (a)(4) program.

As of January 26, 2022, 6,975 students are enrolled at Germanna Community College and therefore eligible for Emergency Financial Aid Grants.

6.The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under the ARP (a)(4) program.

  • Submit the Emergency Funds Request Form
  • Demonstrate Need
  • Enrolled for the respective semester
  • Must be in good standing with the College

7. Guidance provided to students:.

  • The $1,000 grant you will be receiving from the ARP should be used for your cost for attending college such as tuition and fees, transportation, books and supplies, housing, and food. Also, the funds can be used for emergency expenses from COVID-19 to include additional technology, healthcare, and childcare costs.
  • These emergency grants are not taxable
  • Verify and/or update your refund preference, if needed, here. You will receive your refund in 10-14 business days, with direct deposit the quickest method.
  • Verify your mailing address:
    • go to your MyGCC Student Center
    • scroll to the bottom until you see the Personal information section, click Mailing Address and verify the address
    • if your address needs to be updated, click the Pencil icon, edit address, click Ok, click Save

Remaining Portion of the Emergency Grants

Students that did not meet the initial criteria for Summer 2021, detailed above, were able to either request funds by submitting the respective form or via a mass selection process based on having a 2012-22 or 2022-23 FAFSA and meeting the eligibility requirements.
