Germanna Community College is required to disclose the following information pertaining to its use monies received from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund.
1. An acknowledgement that the institution signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students. The total amount of funds that the institution will receive or has received from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students. Germanna Community College was awarded $2,868,710 from the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. No less than $1,434,355, 50% of the total allocation, will be used to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students who are most in need due to the disruption of campus operations as a result of COVID-19.2
Germanna Community College signed and returned to the Department of Education the CARES Funding Certification and Agreement on May 4, 2020.
2. The total amount of funds that the institution will receive or has received from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
Germanna Community College was awarded $2,868,710 from the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. No less than $1,434,355, 50% of the total allocation, will be used to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students who are most in need due to the disruption of campus operations as a result of COVID-19.
3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of the date of submission.
4. The estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
The estimated total number of students at Germanna Community College eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 1,620.
5. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
6. The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act (for the initial group for spring 2020, distributed on May 19).
- Submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for Aid Year 2019-2020 and eligible for federal student aid
- Expected Family Contribution (EFC) determined from FAFSA is 0
- Citizenship confirmed by Social Security Administration or Department of Homeland Security or overridden by staff member with supporting documentation
- Satisfactory Academic Progress status of Meets, Academic Plan, Probation, or Warning
- Actively enrolled in on-campus classes in spring 2020 term as of the National Emergency Declaration on March 13, 2020
- Not enrolled in all online courses as of March 13, 2020
- Each recipient received $1,000
7. Any instructions, directions, or guidance provided by the institution to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants.
- The $1,000 grant you will be receiving from the CARES act is to be used for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations to include food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, and childcare.
- These emergency grants are not taxable

Remaining Portion of the Emergency Grants
Students that did not meet the initial criteria, detailed above, were awarded emergency funds via an emergency grant request form. We finished spending our entire allotment March 25, 2021.
