Being a parent and student simultaneously has its own significant challenges that can make it difficult to stay on track and be successful. At Germanna, we are here to help. Through funding provided by the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education and the United States Department of Education we proudly offer access to child care services for eligible student parents, helping you to attend college and reach your academic and career goals.
To ensure consideration for funding, it is critical to submit your application on time.
Eligibility
Before applying for Germanna’s Child Care Assistance Program, complete the following:
- The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a complete application packet for FANTIC
- Determine your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and Financial Aid Award
- A Single Stop Screening - Another screening is not required if previously completed
- There are two ways to complete a Single Stop Screening:
- Complete the online tool for an independent screening
- Or schedule an appointment to participate in an assisted screening
- Determine if you are eligible for state Child Care Subsidies
- There are two ways to complete a Single Stop Screening:
Apply to the Child Care Assistance Program
- Complete and submit the Child Care Assistance Program Application.
- Upon receipt, we will review your application for eligibility and available resources.
- You will be contacted via phone and your VCCS student email when your application has been processed.

Laptop Loaner Request
Complete the following Laptop Loaner Request Form
Once awarded, students must:
- Register for and attend the Child Care Assistance Program Orientation.
- Maintain Pell Grant or FANTIC eligibility.
- Maintain enrollment in a minimum of six (6) credits (students enrolled in 12 or more credits may be eligible for a higher level of funding) or a Germanna Workforce Credential Program.
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) according to Financial Aid.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Meet with the Child Care Assistance Program Project Coordinator at least once per semester.
- Notify the Child Care Assistance Program Project Coordinator before changing enrollment status (e.g., adding or dropping a course, changing your major, or withdrawing from a course).
- Participate in at least one student parent community engagement or educational activity each semester.
- Remain in good standing with the childcare provider, including meeting any financial obligation not covered by Germanna’s Child Care Assistance Programs.
- Notify the Child Care Assistance Program Project Coordinator at least two (2) weeks before pausing or stopping child care services once placed.
- Return loaned laptop at the conclusion of the semester, your Child Care Assistance Program eligibility, program completion, graduation, or as requested by the Child Care Assistance Program Project Coordinator.

Though Germanna facilitates access to child care through grant funding, Germanna does not provide onsite child care services on campus.
