DISCOVER Your Way to STEM Teaching
Funded by the National Science Foundation through the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, the DISCOVER program — Developing Identities in STEM to Cultivate Opportunities that Validate, Empower, and Retain — is designed to lead college students up through graduation to become teachers in STEM fields.
Germanna is partnering with the University of Mary Washington to offer 18 scholarships, each totaling $48,000, to participating students, starting their third year of education.
How does the program work?
Explorers · Years 1-2
Three cohorts, each containing 12 Germanna and UMW students, will be recruited to study introductory activities related to STEM teaching during their first two years.
Scholars · Year 3
Six Explorers from each cohort will be selected to continue into the Scholar phase. Scholars will enroll in specialized STEM coursework during a two-week summer program, followed by experiential learning coursework during their junior year.
Each Scholar will receive $24,000 in tuition support for their third year of study.
Scholars · Year 4
Each Scholar will receive $24,000 in tuition support in their fourth year of study to complete the program.
