Introducing the Student Financial Planning Portal

Germanna is introducing a new Student Financial Planning (SFP) portal as part of a phased rollout of updated Student Information System (SIS) and other PeopleSoft modules. This portal will eventually replace parts of the current financial aid process—but for now, it’s important to understand what’s new, what’s staying the same, and what you need to do (or not do) right now.

What is the SFP portal?

The SFP portal is a new financial aid system being piloted at six schools in the Virginia Community College System, including Germanna.

This portal will be used to:

  • Upload and manage financial documents
  • View financial aid tasks and messages
  • Grant access to authorized users (FERPA)

When is the portal going live?

  • The SFP portal is live as of February 2026.
  • Students will begin accessing their 2026–2027 (Fall 2026–Summer 2027) financial aid information through the new portal once it launches.

Important: If you are enrolled in spring or summer classes, you will continue to complete your financial aid processes using the current systems.

What's changing?

  • A new portal is being introduced for student financial planning.
  • Instructions currently found on the Financial Aid Forms page and Canvas course will be updated to reflect the new process.

What isn't changing?

  • Spring and Summer 2026 financial aid processes and access will remain in the existing system.
  • You do not need to re-submit documents or repeat steps unless you are specifically instructed to do so.

Navigating SIS vs. SFP

As we transition to the new portal, you will use both SIS and SFP depending on the task and the academic year.

For the Fall 2025–Summer 2026 academic year (and earlier)

You will continue to use SIS for all financial aid–related tasks during this period.

Use SIS to:

  • View and manage financial aid eligibility through Summer 2026
  • Access the Financial Aid tile
  • View messages from the Financial Aid Office in the SIS Message Center
  • Manage your profile, action items, and messages
  • Handle tuition payments and class enrollment
  • View academic records and progress

Starting with the 2026–2027 academic year (Fall 2026 and beyond)

Beginning with the 2026–2027 FAFSA and awarding cycle, the SFP portal will become your primary location for financial aid tasks.

Use the SFP portal to:

  • View and manage financial aid eligibility for fall 2026 and future terms
  • Complete financial planning tasks
  • Upload and submit required documents
  • Receive financial planning messages and notifications
  • Manage authorized users and FERPA access

During this transition, SIS will still be used for:

  • Class enrollment
  • Tuition and payments
  • Academic records and progress

If you receive a message or request, it will indicate which system you should use to complete the task.

How to Use the SFP Portal

Looking Ahead

This portal rollout is part of a long-term effort to modernize student systems.

  • Additional financial aid processes will move into the new portal over time.
  • After summer classes, students will transition fully into the new system, for financial aid only.
  • By 2034, all PeopleSoft information is expected to be fully cloud-based.

You will receive clear communication as additional changes are introduced.
