Paying Your Tuition
Germanna has a set payment due date for tuition and fees. If you enroll after the due date, payment is due at the time of class registration. Enrollment is not complete until the balance is fully satisfied by payment, anticipated financial aid, payment plan, third-party contract, veteran’s benefits, waiver, and/or prepaid college plan.
Understanding Course Modalities
The way a course is taught, based on timing, location, and interaction, is known as the course modality. Use the following terms to help understand course modalities at Germanna.
Timing
- Synchronous: Class activities occur at regularly scheduled times
- Asynchronous: Class activities can be accessed at any time
Location
- In person: Class activities occur in a physical classroom or other place (like a clinic)
- Online: Class activities are all accessed online via computer applications
Interaction
- Face-to-face: Students meet in the real world
- Virtual: Students meet synchronously via a web meeting like Zoom
- Limited: Students work independently unless assignments require collaboration

In-person
Timing: Synchronous
Location: In person
Interaction: Face-to-face
Example: MTH 154-F03 meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 8-9:20 a.m. at the Fredericksburg campus in room SP2-235.
Interactive Video
Timing: Synchronous
Location: In person
Interaction: Instructor (and some classmates) may be virtual
Example: CST 126-CV01 meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m. at the Culpeper campus in room CU1-224, but the professor broadcasts via Zoom from the Locust Grove Campus.
Synchronous Online
Timing: Synchronous
Location: Online
Interaction: Virtual
Example: ART 203-W01S meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. via Zoom.
Asynchronous Online
Timing: Asynchronous
Location: Online
Interaction: Limited
Example: HLT 143-W01 has no required meetings. Students may work at their own pace but must meet due dates.
Hybrid
Timing: Part synchronous, part asynchronous
Location: Part in person, part online
Interaction: Face-to-face while in person, limited for online component
Example: ENG 111-FH02 meets Thursdays only from 9:30-10:50 a.m. at the Fredericksburg campus in room SP1-318. Students work at their own pace to complete additional coursework online but must meet due dates.
