Commencement Ceremony · 7 p.m.
Letter From the Interim President
Dear Germanna Graduates:
Today, we celebrate you. This moment marks the culmination of years of dedication, late nights, and hard work. You have earned this milestone, and you should be deeply proud of all that it represents.
Pledge of Allegiance
I pledge allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one nation under God, indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all.
The Star-Spangled Banner
O say, can you see,
By the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars,
Through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare,
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there.
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free
And the home of the brave?

Academic Regalia
The academic costume has its origins in the universities of the Middle Ages. The warm gown and hood were useful in unheated buildings. Even after the Civil War, students at most American colleges and universities wore caps and gowns while attending classes. These costumes varied greatly until the design was standardized in 1894.
