Requesting Accommodations as a Dual Enrollment Student

Students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan may be eligible for accommodations at the college level. These accommodations are determined through a separate process that ensures alignment with college-level academic standards.

Step 1: Complete the Onboarding Form

Once submitted, a member of the Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR) will contact the student within five business days.

  • If the student is already enrolled, communication will be sent to their Germanna student email.
  • If the student is not yet enrolled, contact will be made through the alternate email provided on the form.

Step 2: Meet With an Accessibility Advisor

Students must meet with a disability/accessibility advisor to discuss their educational needs and develop an official Accommodation Letter. This letter is provided to instructors to inform them of the approved accommodations for college courses.

Why High School Accommodations Don’t Automatically Apply

While IEP or 504 plans support students in high school, not all accommodations from those plans apply to college classes. Some high school accommodations may alter the academic integrity of a college course. During the meeting, the advisor will review which accommodations can be used in the college setting and explain any changes to support services.

Step 3: Attend the Accommodation Workshop

After the advising meeting, students are required to attend an Accommodation Workshop. This session helps students learn how to sign and send their Accommodation Letters to instructors and understand the steps for ongoing use of accommodations each semester.

Step 4: Send Accommodation Letters to Instructors

The final step involves emailing the approved Accommodation Letter to each instructor and scheduling a meeting to review the accommodations in detail.

At the start of the semester, students enrolled in classes during the first week will automatically receive their Accommodation Letter via their Germanna student email.

If a student is not yet enrolled, they must request their Accommodation Letter as soon as possible.

Reapply Each Semester

Remember: Accommodations are not retroactive, so students must complete this process before or at the beginning of the semester to ensure timely access for support.
