Smart Start is a series of summer bridge programs tailored to the needs of different student populations. Smart Start will prepare you for college, get you connected with Germanna support services, and help you make the right plan to finish your college degree.
Take SDV 100 "College Success Skills"
Taking SDV 100 "College Success Skills" before your fall semester is the smart start to earning your college degree. SDV 100 is a required course for all degree-seeking students and will equip you with the tools to be successful at Germanna and beyond.
With Smart Start you will:
- Take a free class
- Earn college credit
- Connect with campus resources
- Choose a program of study
- Make a plan to complete your degree

Smart Start: DE
Classes start May 22
Location: In-person or online

Program Details:
- We offer various ways for students to gain access to dual enrollment courses to support their goal of earning a credential before graduating high school
- We're committed to helping our high school students save on the cost of higher education
Smart Start: Career Connected
Classes start June 10
Location: Fredericksburg Area Campus
If you are a former foster care youth or used a IEP or 504 in high school, our Smart Start: Career Connected Education Program is for you.
Program Details:
- Summer courses with extra support for students with barriers to learning
- SDV 100 "College Success Skills" course, ITE 152, and PSY 120
- Fun activities every Friday
- Attend a Welcome Night

Smart Start: Core Craft Skills
Classes start June 10
Location: Fredericksburg Area Campus
If you are a former foster care youth or used a IEP or 504 in high school, our Smart Start: Core Craft Skills Program is for you.
Program Details:
- SDV 100 "College Success Skills" course
- Core crafts skills
- Fun activities every Friday
- Attend a Welcome Night

Smart Start: First-Gen
Classes start July 29
Location: Fredericksburg Area Campus
If you will be the first in your family to go to college, our Smart Start: First-Gen program is just for you.
Program Details:
- Free SDV 100 "College Success Skills" course
- Free laptop to keep
- Fun, engaging four-day orientation
