Steps for dual enrolling at your high school
Prospective dual enrollment (DE) students must receive qualifying placement test scores in order to enroll. If you have questions about the process, your first point of contact is your high school counselor.
Steps for dual enrolling independently
Home school and high school students who plan on taking Germanna classes outside of their programmed high school day are Independent Dual Enrollment (IDE) students. IDE students must submit all required documentation to a Germanna counselor for consideration each semester they plan to enroll.
Special Exceptions for Dual Enrollment Admission
Dual Enrollment is generally restricted to rising juniors and seniors, or home-schooled students at these levels. Admitting students below these levels is considered an exception, and the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) allows each college to set criteria for such cases.
Germanna's Criteria for Special Exception
Students who are below the junior or senior high school level must meet all standard dual enrollment requirements, as outlined in Virginia Community College System policy 6.6.3. Formal approval by the college president, or designee, is required for applicants who are below the junior or senior high school level to participate in dual enrollment.
In addition to completing the Steps for Enrollment, students must also:
- Complete a Special Exception Request for Admission Form. You can get this form from your high school counselor or email DualEnrollment@germanna.edu to request a copy. You will complete the student section and then obtain your high school counselor signature.
- Email the completed form to DualEnrollment@germanna.edu for review and approval.
