On-Time Registration is a Germanna policy based on research that demonstrates students are more likely to complete a course successfully when they register early or at least on time.
It is our commitment to help you succeed by making sure all students are ready to learn on the first day of class.
For details on registration deadlines, please visit the Academic Calendar. Select the semester and session in which you plan to enroll and view “Last Day to Add”.
On-time Registration FAQ’s
What is the difference between a semester and a session at GCC
At GCC, a semester refers to an academic term. Each year we have three semesters: fall, spring, and summer. A session refers to the number of weeks within a semester during which a course is scheduled to meet. GCC offers several different sessions each semester to provide you with a variety of course and scheduling options. For example, in addition to the standard 15- and 8-week sessions, you might find sessions taught in a 12 or 4 week format. Consult the Class Schedule and your academic advisor for more information about scheduling options.
Does the new On-Time Registration policy impact when payment is due after I register for classes?
No. The payment deadline policy remains the same as in previous semesters. Payment deadlines for the current and upcoming semester can be found on the GCC website or by contacting the Business Office.
If I register for course on the last day before a session begins, do I have to pay by 11:59 p.m. that night?
No. If you register for courses on the last day before a session begins you will have until 5:00 p.m. the next business day to pay for your classes. Failure to pay by that deadline will result in your courses being dropped for non-payment and the on-time registration requirement will prevent you from being able to re-register for that same course.
My computer/internet “froze,” and I wasn’t able to register before the deadline. Can someone add me to my classes?
No. Once the deadline has passed you are not able to register late. However, you may be able to register for courses offered in an upcoming session or an online course with a later start date.
The session started on Monday, but the class I am interested in doesn’t meet until Thursday. It’s Wednesday afternoon. Can I still register?
No. Registration for that session has closed. However, you may be able to register for courses offered in an upcoming session or an online course with a later start date.
I have been dropped from a course for non-payment but didn’t realize it. My professor told me I’m not on the class roster. Can I get back into the class?
You will only be able to re-enroll if you were dropped as the result of a GCC error. You will need to complete a Registration with Permission Form and obtain supporting documentation from the financial aid or business office to submit to the appropriate dean or designee for consideration. Your form and supporting documentation must be submitted during the limited schedule adjustment period during the first week of classes. Consult the Registration Schedule and Important Academic Dates which are available online or in the College Catalog for more information on schedule adjustments.
I was unable to register for courses before the deadline. I really want to start taking classes as soon as possible. What are my options?
You may still be able to register for courses in a session that has not yet started. GCC offers several different sessions each semester to provide you with a variety of course and scheduling options. For example, in addition to the standard 15- and 8-week sessions, you might find sessions taught in a 12 or 4 week format. Consult the online Class Schedule and your academic advisor for more information about scheduling options.
Can I add or drop classes after On-Time Registration closes?
After the deadline has passed, your ability to add a class is restricted. There is a limited schedule adjustment period during the first week of classes if you have documented mitigating circumstances that impacted your ability to register on time. You will need to complete a Registration with Permission Form and submit supporting documentation to the appropriate dean or designee for consideration. You are permitted to drop your courses at any time in accordance with GCC’s Academic Calendar. Consult the online Class Schedule and your academic advisor for more information on schedule adjustments.
Does the On-Time Registration Policy apply to all students?
This policy applies to all GCC students.
