Together We Can Prevent Overdose

International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is a global event held Aug. 31 each year to remember those gone too soon from overdoses and commit to the goal of preventing these deaths. You can help protect your loved ones, co-workers and neighbors by learning more about the risks of overdose and what you can do to save lives.

Naloxone Rapid Training and Dispensing Event

  • Date: August 29, 2024
  • Time: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  • Location: Rappahannock Area Community Services Board Ice Club |  10825 Tidewater Trail, Fredericksburg, VA 22408

Look for the tall red flag at the entrance

The Rappahannock Area Community Services Board has teamed up with the Virginia Department of Health and Germanna Community College to help combat the opioid crisis by providing naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse opioid overdoses. Opioids include both illicit drugs like heroin and prescription medications such as fentanyl, hydrocodone, and oxycodone.

We offer a brief training session that teaches attendees how to effectively respond to an overdose situation. In just 10 minutes, participants will learn what to do and what not to do during an overdose, how to administer naloxone, and the steps to take afterwards. Each participant will also receive a complimentary naloxone kit, which contains everything needed to safely administer the nasal medication.
