Qualification Requirements

Acceptance is not guaranteed and is based on a competitive admissions process with selective criteria. 

All official transcripts (HS/GED/home school, college, joint service, AP, IB, CLEP, etc.) on file at GCC and evaluated by the registrar*
International transcripts must be translated and evaluated for course-by-course equivalency. Please refer to Admissions for more information.
Current Virginia Nurse Aide (CNA) certification on file with the nursing department*

GCC cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater*
Prerequisite course grades earned must be a C or greater. D’s and F’s in these courses will not be accepted and must be repeated prior to acceptance to the program. Higher GPAs are more competitive.

TEAS Test*
As of March 16, 2024, the TEAS pre-admissions test is required. There is no benchmark score. Higher scores are more competitive. Please email LGCTesting@germanna.edu to schedule. Students may only take the TEAS exam twice at Germanna. For more information, visit Nursing & Allied Health Testing.
I acknowledge that I will be required to complete a criminal background check, drug screen, AHA BLS Provider CPR certification, and verification of immunizations upon acceptance into the program.

Your curricular GPA for admission will be calculated based on the following First Five courses.

These courses must be completed with a grade of C or better prior to the application deadline.

Once admitted, students must complete the following courses (with a C or better) to move to the next semester/complete the program.

Semester 1
  • PNE 162 - Nursing in Health Changes II (11 cr)
  • PNE 174 - Pharmacology for Practical Nurses (2 cr)
Semester 2
  • PNE 164 - Nursing in Health Changes IV (11 cr)
  • PNE 158 - Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing (1 cr)
  • PNE 145 - Trends in Practical Nursing (1 cr)

PN classes are held in person at the Locust Grove Campus and the Stafford County Center. Labs, simulations, and clinicals meet in person and are scheduled based on availability.

Your signature certifies that you have read and understand all the requirements of application to the Nursing Program.

Students accepted into the PN Program will be notified via student email. Students must attend orientation prior to the first semester of PN courses. Dates are announced in the admission letter. Students who do not attend may reapply for the next PN application cycle.

Submitting an application does not guarantee admission into the nursing program.

Application deadlines:

  • February 1 to March 15 (for a fall semester start)
  • September 1 to October 15 (for a spring semester start)
