Licensed Practical Nurse to Registered Nurse (LPN-RN) Advising Checklist

Students are no longer required to meet with a Nursing advisor to complete an advising checklist, but attending an information session or meeting with an academic advisor is highly recommended.

Qualification Requirements

Acceptance is not guaranteed and is based on a competitive admissions process with selective criteria. 

All official transcripts (HS/GED/home school, college, joint service, AP, IB, CLEP, etc.) on file at GCC and evaluated by the registrar*
International transcripts must be translated and evaluated for course-by-course equivalency. Please refer to Admissions for more information.
Current Virginia LPN license on file with the nursing department*

GCC cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater*
Prerequisite course grades earned must be a C or greater. D’s and F’s in these courses will not be accepted and must be repeated prior to acceptance to the program.
Advising checklist completed with student signature on file at GCC*

HESI Mid-curricular Exam*
Students must earn a score of 750 or greater to apply. Please email LGCTesting@germanna.edu to schedule. For more information, visit Nursing & Allied Health Testing.
TEAS Test*
As of March 16, 2024, the TEAS pre-admissions test is required. Students must attain a score of 45% or greater in each content category. No extra ranking points are awarded for higher scores. Please email LGCTesting@germanna.edu to schedule. Students may only take the TEAS exam twice at Germanna. For more information, visit Nursing & Allied Health Testing.
I acknowledge that I will be required to complete a criminal background check, drug screen, AHA BLS Provider CPR certification, and verification of immunizations upon acceptance into the program.

Your curricular GPA for admission will be calculated based on the following First Five courses.

These courses must be completed with a grade of C or better prior to the application deadline.

Students must have one 3-credit Transfer Elective and one 3-credit Humanities Elective to graduate.

LPNs meeting the minimum prerequisites for admission will be awarded 12 credits when admitted to Germanna’s RN Nursing Program at the discretion of the Dean of Nursing & Health Technologies. These credits will be awarded at the completion of the RN program.

NSG classes are held in person at both the Locust Grove Campus and the Stafford County Center. Online (synchronous and asynchronous) and hybrid classes may be offered based on availability. Labs, simulations, and clinicals meet in person and are not guaranteed to be at the same location selected for classes.

Your signature certifies that you have read and understand all the requirements of application to the Nursing Program.

Students accepted into the LPN-RN Program will be notified via student email. Students must attend orientation prior to the first semester of LPN-RN courses. Dates are announced in the admission letter. Students who do not attend may reapply for the next LPN-RN application cycle.

Submitting an application does not guarantee admission into the nursing program.

  • February 1 to March 15 (for a fall semester start)
  • September 1 to October 15 (for a spring semester start)
