Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of slavery, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. Juneteenth represents a significant milestone in American history, celebrating freedom, liberation, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.
