Germanna received $952,000 to help provide students in rural areas with distance learning opportunities. The funding will provide rural communities with advanced telecommunication technology.

Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced more than $2.4 million in federal funding will go towards supporting distance learning services in rural areas. This stems from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grants program, which helps provide rural communities with advanced telecommunication technology.

The largest portion of funding is going to Germanna, giving instructors the ability to teach more than 5,300 students in mental health and healthcare-related courses. Ten locations in Spotsylvania, Stafford, Orange, Culpeper, Wise, Page, and Madison counties will be equipped with video conferencing equipment.
