On Thursday, March 20, Germanna Community College hosted its first Workforce Open House and Job Fair at the Fredericksburg Center for Advanced Technology, welcoming military-connected students, veterans, and their families. The event provided a valuable opportunity to connect with local employers and explore Germanna’s workforce programs and career pathways.

Designed as a free, family-friendly event, the Workforce Open House and Job Fair aimed to support attendees in taking the next step in their careers—whether transitioning from military service, gaining new skills, or embarking on a fresh start. Guests had the chance to meet expert instructors from Germanna’s workforce programs, career advisors, financial aid representatives, and local employers eager to hire skilled professionals.
Representatives from six leading workforce and skilled trades organizations participated, including Allan Myers, American Fire Protection, Day & Zimmerman, Shirley Contracting, and Washington Headquarters Services – Facilities Support Directorate. Guests also enjoyed drinks generously sponsored by Black Rifle Coffee of FXBG.

Germanna’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities for all was at the heart of the event. “At Germanna, we open doors to any and all students, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to build a brighter future,” said Dr. Janet Gullickson, President of the College. “Events like this reflect our dedication to educating our community and fostering success for individuals at every stage of their career journey.”
With a strong turnout and meaningful connections made, Germanna’s first Workforce Open House and Job Fair marked a significant step in empowering military-affiliated students and their families to achieve their career goals. The College looks forward to continuing this initiative and further supporting the local workforce.
