Fredericksburg, VA – Germanna Community College welcomed over 400 K-12 students and their families for a day of discovery and hands-on learning at the annual STEAM-H Day on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Fredericksburg Area Campus.
STEAM-H Day provided young learners with a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating worlds of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics, and Health through interactive activities and games designed to inspire the next generation of innovators.
Germanna’s annual STEAM-H Day continues to grow as a favorite community tradition, previously attracting more than 700 students and their families. This year’s event offered an exciting mix of hands-on learning and entertainment, with interactive stations like slime-making, network hacking, microbe exploration, and robotic simulations. Attendees also enjoyed live entertainment including a magician, a DJ, balloon animals, caricatures, face painting, and even a taxidermy exhibit—making it a day full of discovery, creativity, and fun for all ages.
“This event was about igniting curiosity and showing young learners that science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics, and health aren’t just subjects in school, but exciting fields with real-world impact,” said Dean Craig Willits, dean of science and technology at Germanna. “We wanted students to leave feeling inspired and eager to explore future careers in these areas.”
In addition to the hands-on activities, Germanna collected canned and boxed food items as well as personal hygiene products for the College’s Bear Necessities Food Pantry, supporting students and families in need.
“STEAM-H Day was more than just a fun event—it was an opportunity to spark a passion for learning while giving back to the community,” said Dr. Janet Gullickson, president of the College. “We were thrilled to see families come out, enjoy the day, and help us support those in need.”
