Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were defined in Title III of the Higher Education Act of 1965 as institutions of higher learning accredited and established before 1964 with the defined mission of educating Black Americans. The first institution created to educate Black people in the US, Cheyney University, was founded in 1837—two hundred and eighteen years after enslaved Black people were first brought to the United States against their will. Since then, HBCUs have been a beacon of hope, opportunity, and advancement for Black Americans.

Join Germanna at one of the events highlighting the contributions of HBCUs and the benefits of selecting an HBCU as your transfer institution. We can't wait to see you there!
