Fredericksburg, VA – At Germanna Community College, summer is a season of opportunity. This year, Germanna is offering a dynamic lineup of programs that reflect its ongoing commitment to supporting students of all ages—right here in the local community.
Affordable, Transferable Summer Courses for College Students
For students returning home from four-year universities, Germanna offers an affordable, efficient way to stay on track or get ahead. With sessions beginning May 27, June 17, and July 7, students can complete two or three classes over the summer—saving time and money while earning credits that transfer seamlessly to their home college or university.
At about one-third the cost of most four-year institutions in Virginia, Germanna’s summer classes offer families a smart way to reduce higher education expenses. Courses are available both online and in person, including at Germanna’s new, state-of-the-art Stafford County Center, making it easy to fit learning into summer plans.
A Head Start for University-Bound and Future Nursing Students: Summer Courses at the Stafford County Center
The Stafford County Center is offering in-person summer classes, giving students a way to advance their education. Students interested in applying to Germanna’s competitive Nursing program can complete essential prerequisites during the summer term. Taking summer classes at the new center is also a cost-effective way for university-bound students to earn transferable credits. With tuition rates significantly lower than those at most four-year institutions, students can stay on track—or get ahead—on their path to a bachelor’s degree.
Free Summer Bridge Program for First-Generation Students
From July 21–24, Germanna’s Smart Start program will host a free, four-day summer bridge session for first-generation college students at the Fredericksburg Area Campus in Spotsylvania. The Smart Start: First-Gen program provides students who are the first in their families to attend college with the chance to take College Success Skills, a free college-level course. Students will also hear from inspiring guest speakers and connect with support services designed to help them thrive during their first year and beyond.
Participants will leave with a guided degree plan, help selecting a major, and the confidence to begin their college journey at Germanna.
Operation Health Sciences Camp Opens Doors for Local Youth
Middle school students will get a hands-on introduction to healthcare careers through Germanna’s Operation Health Sciences summer camp, held June 9–11 at the Stafford County Center. The free camp will engage 100 students in interactive activities and workshops led by professionals in medicine, wellness, and clinical care.
These summer initiatives are part of Germanna’s mission to provide affordable, accessible educational opportunities for learners at every stage of life.
“Summer is a time of possibility—and Germanna is here to help our community make the most of it,” said Dr. Janet Gullickson, president of Germanna Community College. “We want learners of all ages to know that whether you're just starting out, continuing your degree, or exploring your interests, there's a place for you here.”
