Join the Germanna Male Empowerment Network (M.E.N.)

Germanna M.E.N. is a two-year retention-focused mentoring program that works specifically with first year African American men. This program will foster intellectual, personal, academic, and professional growth through relationships within the community. M.E.N. will create a deeper appreciation for excellence in education, service, and brotherhood. This program is the first of its kind at Germanna Community College and is the pioneer group for creating college-wide mentoring.

The design for Germanna M.E.N. comes from the historically black university, North Carolina Central University.

Goals

  • Provide awareness of educational resources and promote participants’ utilization of all services
  • Establish positive relationships with peers and faculty
  • Identify strengths and improvement for personal growth through self-assessment and mentoring
  • Develop a sense of personal responsibility
  • Enrich and promote a desire for life-long personal development through servicing our community

Program features

Members will attend monthly meetings/workshops to enhance personal growth and development. Some of these workshops include Financial Literacy, Planning for the Futre, and Dress for Success. Students will also participate in various campus and community events to enrich their college experience (see P.A.S.S. program). When a student joins they will be paired with a faculty/staff/community mentor. This relationship will be important in guiding and supporting their success at Germanna.

Following the completion of their first year, upperclassmen will given the opportunity to participate in peer mentoring.
